Toronto 'Jumps Up' for Public Child Care
TORONTO, ONTARIO - (Marketwire - Nov. 8, 2009) - Children and parents 'Jumped Up' for public child care this afternoon at a free children's concert held at Riverdale Collegiate.
Today's concert was the fourth stop in the seven-city concert series that is a joint project of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario, the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care (OCBCC), and the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL).
"We hope the parents and children of Toronto have enjoyed this free concert as much as we enjoyed putting it on," says CUPE Ontario Secretary-Treasurer Fred Hahn, who attended the concert.
Parents and children were treated to music by Juno Award-nominated children's musician Chris McKhool, along with readings by local children's author Andrea Beck.
Children who attended also received copies of 'The Day We Saved Chic-o-Pee Child Care,' a colouring book that features the story of a group of children who spring into action when their child care facility faces closure due to underfunding.
While the focus of this afternoon was on letting kids enjoy themselves, parents were also urged to sign petitions calling on the Province to enhance early learning and care in Ontario.
Parents were also encouraged to get involved in the campaign to press the McGuinty government to fully fund and implement Dr. Charles Pascal's recommendations on improving child care for children up to the age of 12.
'Jump Up For Public Child Care' will make its next stop in Windsor on November 15.
