Electors Must Prove Their Identity and Address When They Vote

OTTAWA, ONTARIO - (Marketwire - Nov. 6, 2009) -

- Federal by-elections will be held in Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley (Nova Scotia), Hochelaga (Quebec), Montmagny-L'Islet-Kamouraska-Riviere-du-Loup (Quebec) and New Westminster-Coquitlam (British Columbia) on Monday, November 9, 2009.

- All electors must meet voter identification requirements when they vote in the federal by-elections.

- Electors may choose any of three options to prove their identity and address.

- Some identification documents used at provincial and municipal elections may not meet federal election requirements.

"All electors must prove their identity and address when they vote. The requirements are flexible, so electors can meet them depending on the identification they have," says Chief Electoral Officer Marc Mayrand.

Elections Canada is an independent body set up by Parliament.
