Capitol 9 am Briefing; Iraq Vets Say Ft. Hood Not Surprise
Ft. Hood not a surprise to 2 Iraq vets biking across the U.S. for peace; will be in Capitol Friday 9 a.m.
Two young Iraq vets - who have biked across the U.S. for nearly four months to try to understand better the war they were in- said they are not surprised about the violence that took place at Ft. Hood Thursday where at least 12 died, and dozens wounded.
Josh Stieber and Conor Curran - who are dealing with their own personal demons after being deployed to Iraq - will be in Sacramento briefly Friday where they stopped Thursday night after they began their arduous ride from Maine in early July.
They will comment, and offer insight, on the war, its effect on Americans serving there and the Ft. Hood killings FRIDAY, at 9 a.m. at 909 12th St. They then leave for a stop in Stockton later Friday.
Note: The vets are prepared to talk about their experiences in Iraq - a glimpse into that war seldom told - including guarding prisoners and how, as Conor puts it: "I saw and heard many things in the war which disgust me now." Josh said he was taught to "hate and dehumanize entire people groups, not showing sadness..."
