Photographer's Coffee Table Book, Rover, to Benefit Pet Shelters
SAN DIEGO - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Acclaimed commercial photographer, Andrew Grant, has just released Rover,
a big, stunning coffee table book that features over 200 soulful
portraits of shelter and purebred dogs. Grant produced Rover
as an effort to promote awareness and raise money for pet shelters and
rescue organizations.
Based on a National Counsel on Pet Population Study, over 56% of dogs
and puppies entering shelters are euthanized every year. According to
The Humane Society of The United States, an estimated 4 million dogs and
cats are euthanized in shelters each year. That's approximately one
death every 8 seconds.
A portion of all Rover proceeds will be donated to pet shelters
and rescue organizations across the nation. Grant will also be
organizing pet shelter adoption drives and fundraisers to encourage
shelter adoption and support the incredible individuals who devote their
lives to rescuing animals.
"Pets enrich our lives, bring us priceless moments of joy and only ask
for a home in return," says Grant. With approximately half of the dogs
in Rover originally adopted from shelters, the book wonderfully
illustrates that there are beautiful, loving dogs available for adoption
everywhere. Grant also hopes that Rover will be instrumental in
the fight against pet abuse and to convey the message that spaying
and neutering is an essential part of reducing shelter populations.
One of the first portraits featured in Rover is of Bodhi,
a 4 year old yellow Labrador retriever, who was rescued by Jill Haley of
San Diego. Bodhi had initially been dropped off at an animal control
facility in San Bernardino, simply tied to the door with a note on his
collar that read, "My name is Buddy. My parent's house was foreclosed."
He sat at the shelter for 2 weeks and on his last day before euthanasia
Labrador Rescuers Organization pulled him. Haley adopted him the very
next day.
