An Historic Week for Organization That Helps Veterans

WINCHESTER, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Help Hospitalized Veterans (HHV), the nation's largest supplier of therapeutic arts & crafts to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and military hospitals worldwide concluded an historic week in September.

HHV is a founding sponsor of one of VA's annual special events-the annual National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic, which introduces newly injured and disabled veterans to activities such as kayaking, cycling, sailing, surfing and track & field. With the use of adaptive sports equipment, trained clinicians and rehabilitative specialists, severely injured veterans reached new heights in their rehabilitative goals.

And while attending this year's Clinic, HHV presented its 25-millionth craft kit to a veteran hospitalized at the San Diego VA. In attendance for this historic presentation was VA Secretary Eric K. Shinseki.

"The Secretary was very gracious to HHV," said Lynch. "We look forward to continued opportunities to partner with VA in their goal to better the health and lives of veterans through the use of HHV's therapeutic arts & crafts and VA's annual special events."

"Veterans who thought they'd forever lost the ability to enjoy sports now have hope, thanks to the efforts of the Department of Veterans Affairs and their highly trained staff," said Lynch. "Throughout the week, I was both amazed and privileged to witness the courage and determination of these outstanding men and women. They took on daunting challenges, with many mastering a new sport. VA should be commended for thinking outside the box and promoting healthy and rewarding leisure activities for our nation's disabled veterans. The use of adaptive sports is cutting edge in the field of rehabilitative medicine."

Help Hospitalized Veterans, founded in 1971, is dedicated to improving the lives of hospitalized veterans through its arts & crafts program and direct support of VA's national rehabilitative special events. For more information on HHV's programs and services visit www.hhv.org or call 888-567-VETS.
