BOSTON - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Liberty Mutual, the fifth largest property and casualty insurer in the U.S., created The Responsibility Project as a way of sparking conversations about the meaning of personal responsibility using unique and entertaining content, which includes several film shorts. The latest additions to The Responsibility Project's repertoire of films include five from award-winning directors associated with Los Angeles-based production company, Independent Media, Inc., including Michael Apted ("THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER," "COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER," "GORILLAS IN THE MIST" ) Brandon Camp ("LOVE HAPPENS" ), Roger Donaldson ("THE BANK JOB," "THE RECRUIT" ), Tony Goldwyn ("WALK ON THE MOON," "LAST KISS," "BETTY ANN WATERS," "DEXTER" ) and Ron Shelton ("TIN CUP," "BULL DURHAM," "WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP" ). All five film shorts are the directors' creative interpretations of personal responsibility and can be found online at www.ResponsibilityProject.com.

"Independent Media is an outstanding partner for us on The Responsibility Project," said Paul Alexander, senior vice president, communications, Liberty Mutual Group. "The caliber of films and access to world-renowned talent that Independent Media brought to the table continue to elevate the film experience for visitors to The Responsibility Project Web site. We're excited to experience the directors' creative interpretations on personal responsibility and the decisions that confront people trying to 'do the right thing.'"

Los Angeles-based Independent Media, Inc. is renowned for introducing feature film talent to the advertising marketplace. Susanne Preissler, founder, Independent Media, Inc., said she got involved in the program because, "at the root of every story are characters that must make a decision. The directors have created five short films that are their creative interpretations of personal responsibility. Their films capture moments that can inspire us all to think about personal responsibility and the impact that our choices have on our lives and the lives of others."

Films from Independent Media include:

  • "PARTY GUEST," which was directed by Michael Apted and written by Dana Stevens. The film's director of photography was Dante Spinotti, with music by Carmen Rizzo.
  • "PRODIGY," which was written and directed by Brandon Camp, with Tom Sigel serving as director of photography and music by Cort Sobel.
  • "LAWYERS," (scheduled to be posted online in Dec. 2009), which was written and directed by Roger Donaldson, with Tom Stern, director of photography, and featuring an original score by J. Peter Robinson.
  • "SOUND I SAW," which was written and directed by Tony Goldwyn, with Tom Stern as director of photography and music by Philip Glass.
  • "THE HOME RUN," which was written and directed by Ron Shelton, with Tom Stern as director of photography and music by J. Peter Robinson.

All films can be found online at The Responsibility Project's online community, which connects individuals who are interested in sharing their perspectives on personal responsibility in their communities, families, businesses and schools. The site also is a resource and forum for anyone interested in sparking a conversation about the decisions that confront people trying to "do the right thing."

The concept for The Responsibility Project is the evolution of the Liberty Mutual ad campaign featuring the tagline, "Responsibility. What's your policy?" Launched in 2006 to promote Liberty Mutual's approach to its business and customers, these ads showcased personal acts of responsibility and daily examples of ordinary people making the decision to do considerate things for strangers. In 2009, The Responsibility Project has been supported by a national advertisement campaign that follows the lives of a "typical" American family, the Marlowes, and how they confront decisions of personal responsibility and what it means to "do the right thing."
