AOD Software is approved by the Ohio Board of Pharmacy for its Electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR)
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - AOD Software, the leader in truly integrated long term care software,
has obtained official approval of the AnswersElite Electronic Medication
Administration Record (eMAR) system by the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBP).
The OBP has stringent requirements about positive user identification
when implementing an eMAR. As such, through its collaboration with The
Kendal Corporation (www.kendal.org)
and two of its 13 continuing care retirement communities in six states,
Kendal at Granville and Kendal at Oberlin, AOD software has been
approved as an eMAR software provider in the State of Ohio. Approval is
based on AOD's use of physical security devices as a way to provide 2nd
factor authentication of nurses while they distribute medications in
their facilities.
AnswersElite's eMAR solution meets the security measures required by the
OBP's regulations while also maintaining ease of use. By listening to
Kendal frontline nurses and testing options in real clinical situations,
Kendal and AOD identified a low-cost and easy to implement physical
verification piece called an iButton which verifies each nurse's
identity as they perform their medication administration. The nurses
simply place the iButton on the reading surface of the computer. The
system then verifies their identity and allows them to document the
medications given.
"The State of Ohio is at the forefront of two-factor authentication to
help verify the distribution of prescriptions for our industry," said
Aric Agmon, President & CEO, AOD Software. "We are, as always, vigilant
of the changes in regulations and the needs of our clients, and
therefore pleased to provide this advancement not only for Ohio
facilities, but also in advance to facilities in other states that wish
to undertake this initiative."
The Kendal Corporation began implementing AOD's full Electronic Health
Record (EHR) in all of its communities in 2008 and will complete the
last community in 2010. "While this has been a major undertaking for the
Kendal System," said Peggy Sinnott, Director for Health Services of The
Kendal Corporation, "through AOD's responsiveness to staff needs and
industry changes, the software has been improved and subsequently the
workload of nursing staff eased and safety and quality of care for our
residents enhanced."
