U.S. Assistant Secretary for Aging Kathy Greenlee to Attend Aging Conference in Chicago, Tour Model House That Brings Modern Aging Vision to Life

CHICAGO, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following advisory was released by American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging:

WHAT: The U.S. Assistant Secretary for Aging Kathy Greenlee will speak at this year's annual meeting of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) about how our country can help seniors remain healthy, active and independent.

Prior to her speech, Secretary Greenlee will tour AAHSA's innovative "Idea House," a 2,600-square-foot model home displaying groundbreaking technologies and design features that enable older people to live longer at home and independently.

The features on display in the model house are designed to improve older people's quality of life, while reducing health care costs, encouraging healthy behavior, enhancing safety and providing caregivers with support. Ninety percent of the products featured are on the market today. Some technology highlights on display include:

    --  A security system that replaces the traditional peephole with DVD
        screen.
    --  A medication dispenser which automatically organizes, reminds, dispenses
        and monitors an individual's medication use.

    --  A gaming system that provides 24/7 access to speech therapy, e-mail and
        classic radio shows through the television.

Secretary Greenlee currently oversees a $1.4 billion program that focuses on health, long-term care and supportive community-based services such as transportation and nutrition for America's seniors and their caregivers.
