ModusLink Global Solutions' leadership in sustainability recognized by Supply & Demand Chain Executive
WALTHAM, Mass. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - ModusLink
Global Solutions , Inc. (NASDAQ: MLNK), a leader in
global supply chain business process management, has won Supply &
Demand Chain Executive's 2009 Green Supply Chain Award. This year's
award aimed to recognize organizations that are taking steps to
implement proven sustainable business processes. More than 75
organizations applied for the award and ModusLink was selected based on
its leadership in reducing the impact of global supply chain processes
on the environment.
While not a new concept, sustainability is fast becoming a standard
expectation of consumers, forcing manufacturers to seek viable,
repeatable ways to improve their sustainability profile. Although
conventional wisdom dictates that sustainability will increase costs,
organizations are realizing that sustainable best practices can
frequently result in increased cost savings.
"Our clients are turning to us to help them reduce both costs as well as
the environmental impact of their supply chain processes," said Lorcan
Sheehan, senior vice president of marketing, ModusLink. "Most consumer
product OEMs want to be socially responsible. ModusLink's in-depth
understanding of our clients' business processes and sustainable best
practices allows us to work with them to identify and implement
practical steps to realize their sustainability and cost objectives."
ModusLink's Sustainable Solutions Suite is designed to help supply chain
practitioners minimize the environmental impact of their supply chain
processes and reduce total supply chain costs. The Company evaluates an
organization's carbon footprint and offers a solution set to reduce
Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, reduce the use of plastics, increase
the use of recyclable materials and minimize the amount of product and
components sent to landfills. Through its work with the world's leading
technology brands, ModusLink has developed sustainable packaging
solutions that are designed eliminate 4,085 metric tons of greenhouse
gas emissions from the environment every year; or a savings of 8,254
barrels of oil.
