ScanSource, Inc. Expands Communications Footprint in Europe

GREENVILLE, S.C. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - ScanSource, Inc., a leading value-added distributor of specialty technologies, including voice, data and video communications products, entered into a definitive agreement on November 3, 2009, to purchase substantially all the assets of Algol Europe, a value-added distributor specializing in convergence and communications solutions. Algol, headquartered in Cologne, Germany, will begin operating as ScanSource Communications GMBH, and will join ScanSource Communications UK as part of ScanSource Communications Europe. The Managing Director of Algol, Marianne Nickenig, will remain with the new company and will report to Xavier Cartiaux, President of ScanSource Europe.

Algol distributes a comprehensive product portfolio covering the areas of infrastructure, voice, network security, and video solutions from manufacturers including 3Com, Avaya, APC, Extreme Networks, Juniper Networks, and Plantronics, among others. In addition, resellers have access to value-added services, such as technical and pre-sale support, design, trainings and certifications through its extensive AlgolCOLLEGE training centre. The company was founded in 1997, has 65 employees and has trailing 12-month revenue of approximately 46 million Euros.

Algol Europe has been named best certified 3Com partner, largest Extreme Networks distributor in EMEA, largest Extreme Networks training partner worldwide, and 2008 Avaya Distributor of the Year.
