Correctional Service of Canada: Modified Routine at Saskatchewan Penitentiary

PRINCE ALBERT, SASKATCHEWAN - (Marketwire - Nov. 3, 2009) - Saskatchewan Penitentiary is currently operating on a modified routine as a result of a positive case of H1N1 flu virus and some other cases with mild flu-like symptoms.

Following consultation with public health authorities, all appropriate steps have been taken to contain the situation, including infection prevention and control measures in an effort to limit the transmission of the disease.

The facility will return to a normal routine once health authorities determine that it is safe to do so. Regularly scheduled visits are cancelled.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system. Saskatchewan Penitentiary is a multi-level security federal institution in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, responsible for 494 medium security male offenders and 158 maximum security male offenders.
