Motor Pool Operations Under Way

 Sgt. David Rhodes, a mechanic with the 751st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 96th Sustainment Brigade, and a Columbia, S.C. native, checks the battery on a 4,000-pound forklift. He is part of a six-person team which has been successful with keeping equipment up and running during their deployment here.

AL ASAD, Iraq - The Headquarters and Headquarters Co., 751st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 96th Sustainment Brigade consists of six Soldiers. Staff Sgt. Joseph Young, of Columbia, S.C., Staff Sgt. Randy Kessler, from Chapin S.C., Sgt. Jonathan Griggs, a Sumter, S.C. native, Sgt. Dwayne Bannister, from Columbia S.C., Sgt. David Rhodes, from Columbia, S.C. and Spc. Brian King of Columbia, S.C., form the team that keeps all the equipment in working condition. The section is headed by Young, who is the motor sergeant. The uniqueness of the group, being in the National Guardsmen, is the fact that all accept one of the Soldiers work at the Combined Support Maintenance Shop at home.
The experience of working together has proven to be beneficial for the 751st CSSB. All equipment and vehicles assigned to the 751st are currently in a Fully Mission Capable status. The motor pool has accomplished this feat on several occasions during the deployment. Having all vehicles in a ready status is essential in the event that a vehicle is required during the mission here. On several occasions, these vehicles were utilized by other companies to accomplish specific tasks.
 Sgt. Dwayne Bannister, from Columbia, S.C., works as a mechanic in the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 751st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 96th Sustainment Brigade motor pool. Bannister performs maintenance and completes scheduled services on assigned equipment.

The section is currently working on prepping equipment to be transferred to sister companies within the Battalion. The Soldiers perform Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services and verify that all components are accounted for prior to getting with HHC Supply to initiate the transfer.
 Sgt. Jonathan Griggs, from Sumter, S.C., is the SAMS -E operator for Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 751st Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 96th Sustainment Brigade. Griggs ensures that all necessary parts are ordered and also tracks these items as they come in.

Hard work and dedication has finally paid its toll for two individuals. Sgt. Bannister and Sgt. Rhodes were both recently promoted. "I have enjoyed this deployment and getting promoted is my highlight", stated Sgt. Bannister. Working knowledge and team cohesion has proven to make this mission a success for the Motor Pool.
