PetSmart Charities(R) Hosts Holiday National Adoption Event in All U.S. PetSmart(R) Stores

Littleton Store Hosts Expanded Parking Lot Event to Find Homes for Pets

PetSmart Charities invites you to bring a pet home for the holidays during the Holiday National Adoption Event this November 13-15. Purina® Pro Plan®, Tidy Cats® and PetSmart® are the proud sponsors of this adoption event, which will be held in all 1,082 PetSmart® stores in the United States, with a special expanded event being held in the Littleton PetSmart® store.

More than 2,000 animal-welfare agencies throughout the United States are expected to participate and will be presenting adoptable pets at every PetSmart Charities in-store adoption center. The event will take place Friday, November 13 through Sunday, November 15, 2009 with a goal of finding homes for 15,800 dogs, cats and small animals. The Littleton PetSmart® store located at 8222 S University Blvd. will also provide additional space in its parking lot to showcase even more pets who need to find homes.

"Pets do so much to improve our quality of life," said Susana Della Maddalena, executive director of PetSmart Charities. "There are so many great pets available for adoption, and these national events give animal-welfare organizations the opportunity to help them find the lifelong, loving homes that they deserve."

In the U.S. alone, an estimated 6 to 8 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters each year, but 3 to 4 million never find homes. During the last 14 years, the PetSmart Charities Adoption Centers have found homes for more than 3.9 million pets. For every minute that the Adoption Centers are open, one pet's life is saved.

"PetSmart Charities strives to raise awareness about the benefits of adopting rather than purchasing a pet," added Della Maddalena. "With so many amazing pets being showcased during this event, we know that thousands of pets will find their forever homes."

Not only will prospective pet parents get a new family member during this event, but they will also receive free samples from Purina Pro Plan, Tidy Cats and PetSmart®.

ABOUT THE HOLIDAY NATIONAL ADOPTION WEEKEND

Prospective adopters are encouraged to visit the PetSmart Charities' Adoption Center inside any PetSmart® store in the U.S. from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, November 13 and Saturday, November 14; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 15.
