Pro Basketball, Pro Soccer Teams Relocate to Folsom

Folsom Mayor, Steve Miklos, hosted Reggie Davis, CEO of ABA Basketball team Heatwave and JR Gholar, CEO of Sacramento Knights at a joint meeting in Folsom yesterday afternoon.

JR Gholar announced The Knights are moving into the professional United Soccer League.

Both teams said they were attracted to Folsom partly because of the size of the city, potential for future growth, facilities and the demographics and lifestyle of the population.

Davis said "We're here to bring to Folsom, the excitement of ABA Pro basketball."

Mayor Miklos acknowledged that Folsom is "extremently sports conscious. We have one of the best recreational facilities and opportunities in Northern California". He said the City was interested in hosting the two teams because they are a good fit for the City.

JR Gholar said "We want to get involved with the community, to bring quality soccer to the Folsom area. We're very excited about meeting with the Mayor and a few other local community leaders and getting the game and the season on".

The mayor told NewsBlaze the Folsom soccer program has over 3300 young players, with around 1500 families involved, plus tournaments that bring an additional 5,000 to 10,000 players throughout the season.

"Soccer and Basketball and sports as a whole are near and dear to the City of Folsom and we're hoping it's a perfect marriage between these two franchises and the City of Folsom - which we believe it is. Soon we can cut the ribbon and share the excitement about Pro Basketball and Pro Soccer".

Miklos said "This is great family entertainment".
