Jason Schwartzman can only watch films his mother Talia Shire appeared before he was born.

The 'Fantastic Mr. Fox' star - who plays Ash in the animated children's movie - says it took him years to work out what the 'Rocky' actress did for a living and even now can only watch the films she appeared in before she had him.

He said: "I realised she was an actress and that she was in this thing called 'Rocky', but what I've only just realised is that it's much easier for me to watch her in the movies she made before I was born.

"I can watch the first two 'Rocky' movies and the first two 'Godfathers', but once you get to 'Rocky III' or 'The Godfather III' it's weirder for me because that's my mom, and I'm conscious of her being my mom."

The 28-year-old actor finds it particularly difficult to understand his mother's movie star lifestyle because she cut down her working hours and shied away from the limelight once he was born.

Jason explained to The Scotsman: "My mom didn't really work as much once I was born... It was weird when sometimes we'd go out and someone would come up to my mom and say something. You'd sort of put it together, but we never saw much of that life. We were just by ourselves."
