Kwik Fit Insurance Saves Local Hockey Team

  Share With Friends

GLASGOW, Scotland - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Kwik Fit Insurance has come to the rescue of a Carluke-based hockey club which was faced with the prospect of having to fold just a year after it was set up.

Clydeside Hockey Club's first team won their league in their first season using a children's goalkeeping kit kindly leant to them by Carluke High School. However after being promoted they could not borrow the kit any more and realised they would not be able to play their fixtures up in Division 3 if they did not have a new kit because of the danger to their outfield players.

Club secretary Graham Martin approached his employers Kwik Fit Insurance and the Uddingston-based insurance intermediary immediately agreed to help.

Graham Martin said:" We can't thank Kwik Fit Insurance enough. Without a proper adult goalkeeping kit it would have been impossible to continue to play. They have literally saved our club."

The donation of the kit has not only kept the first team in existence, it has allowed Clydeside Hockey Club to form a second team as well. The club now has approximately 40 players on its books and is already linking up with schools across the Clydeside area to encourage more local youngsters to play hockey.

Brendan Devine, Group Managing Director of Kwik Fit Financial Services, said:" It's great to know that not only has our donation helped Clydeside Hockey Club survive but that it has encouraged it to get more youngsters involved in sport. "

The goalkeeping kit was presented to the first team during their training session at Carluke High School by the head of Kwik Fit Insurance's charities committee Grahame Critcher.

Both the Clydeside first and second teams made a winning start to their seasons with 7-1 and 5-0 wins respectively.
