Outrage: President Barack Obama Awarded The Nobel Peace Prize
By Robert Paul Reyes
"A surprised world greeted the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to U.S. President Barack Obama with a mixture of praise and skepticism on Friday.
In its announcement, the Norwegian Nobel Committee hailed Obama's 'extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.'
Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg referred to Obama's work for peace and disarmament, saying: 'This is a surprising, an exciting prize. It remains to be seen if he will succeed with reconciliation, peace and nuclear disarmament.'" Read More
President Obama has made dramatic overtures to the Islamic world, and he's chosen dialogue over threats of violence in dealing with foes like North Korea and Iran.
After eight years of cowboy diplomacy and a preemptive war mentality under the Bush regime, Obama's willingness to work with international institutions is a breath of fresh air.
However, awarding the Nobel Peace prize to a president who has been in power for only a few months is sheer lunacy. The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the coveted prize to Obama not for what he has accomplished, but as a bribe not to escalate the war in Afghanistan.
It's not often that I agree with the Taliban, in fact I have never found myself on the same side with them, but their spokesman is absolutely right when he declared:
"The Nobel prize for peace? Obama should have won the 'Nobel Prize for escalating violence and killing civilians',"
Obama has sent 21,000 more troops to Afghanistan this year, and if he follows McChrystal's recommendation he will dispatch 40,000 more soldiers to an illegal, immoral and senseless war.
Obama is responsible for the escalation of violence in Afghanistan and for the death of thousands of civilians. It is a travesty of justice to award Obama the Nobel Peace Prize.
Shame, shame on the Norwegian Nobel Committee!
Shame, shame on Obama for accepting an award he knows he doesn't deserve.
