3,500 At-Risk Youth Benefit From San Francisco Charity The Guardsmen Fundraising $1.5 Million In Down Economy, for Summer Camp and Private Schools
The Guardsmen announced it has raised more than $1.5 million during the 2009 fundraising year to fund indoor and outdoor educational programs for at-risk youth in the Bay Area.
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (EWORLDWIRE) Oct 8, 2009
One of San Francisco's longest-standing charitable giving organizations, The Guardsmen, surpassed the amount raised in 2008 and communicated the accomplishment at the annual Fund Drive Wrap-Up dinner held Sept. 1 at the San Francisco Giants' iconic AT&T Park.
"The Guardsmen has thrived each and every year in spite of economic conditions because of a strong and committed membership, as well as the continued support and generosity of local businesses, families and individuals that believe in the programs we fund and the youth we entrust with our future," stated current Guardsmen President Steve Sutro.
Each year, The Guardsmen raise funds through a wide variety of events planned and executed by a strong member base. The events include well-known traditional Bay Area events such as The Christmas Tree Lot at Fort Mason, The San Francisco Wine Auction, The Presidio 10 running race, The Guardsmen Bachelor Auction, The Big Game Luncheon, and The Guardsmen Sports Auction and Celebrity Dinner. Coupled with these popular long-standing events are new events like the Trap & Skeet Tournament which debuted this past year.
Funds raised from these events go directly toward supporting summer camp and private school scholarship programs for at-risk youth in the community.
The Guardsmen give back to the community in other ways, including renovation of Golden Gate Park's historic Horseshoe Pits. This newly revitalized site hosted the Inaugural San Francisco International Open Horseshoe Tournament on Sept. 12.
In addition to events, The Guardsmen raise funds for programs through donations and planned gifts from foundations and individuals, matching gifts from corporations, and corporate sponsorships. As an all-volunteer organization with minimal administrative costs, approximately 90 cents of every donated dollar goes directly towards supporting programs for disadvantaged youth.
About The Guardsmen
The Guardsmen is a group of 150 Bay Area professionals who mobilize their significant talents and resources to enhance and improve the lives of at-risk youth. This all-volunteer organization, founded in 1947, provides access to high-quality educational and outdoor activities for inner-city youth. The opportunities created through The Guardsmen's scholarship and campership programs every year gives children who otherwise would not have a chance at success an opportunity to excel as productive members of society.
