Infonetics Research: Oracle, IBM receive high marks from service providers in service delivery platform survey

Market research firm Infonetics Research released excerpts
from its new SDP
Deployment Strategies and Vendor Ratings: Global Service Provider
Survey, conducted to determine worldwide operator thinking about
service delivery platform drivers, barriers, strategies, and vendors. The
survey is part of Infonetics' Next Gen OSS and
Policy Continuous Research Service (CRS).
ANALYST NOTE
"Our SDP survey confirms that getting services to market faster is the top
driver for operators deploying service delivery platforms. In a market
where Web-based competitors can create new services in a matter of minutes,
incumbent operators understand that they must overcome their legacy
constraints and improve the time it takes to deliver new services to their
subscribers," notes Shira Levine, directing
analyst for next gen OSS and policy for Infonetics Research.

SDP SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS
-- 82% of service provider respondents say getting services to market
faster is definitely a driver for deploying service delivery platforms
-- Messaging is a key application driving service providers to deploy SDPs,
as more operators seek to integrate messaging services with social
networking and other third-party applications
-- In an open-ended question about service delivery platform market
leaders, most service providers named Oracle as the top SDP vendor,
followed by IBM
-- Other companies making the list include Accenture, Aepona,
Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, HP and Nokia Siemens
Service providers participating in Infonetics' SDP survey rated
five SDP vendors (Accenture, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, IBM, Oracle) on 8
criteria: technology, product roadmap, security, management,
price-to-performance ratio, pricing, financial stability, and service and
support.
The service providers participating in the survey include four of the
industry's largest Tier 1 operators, as well as smaller incumbents, cable
operators, MSOs, and wireless carriers that together represent 22% of the
world's telecom capex and 25% of the world's carrier revenue, as reported
in Infonetics' Service Provider
Capex, Opex, ARPU, and Subscribers service.
Survey respondents are purchase decision-makers at service providers that
have already deployed an SDP (82%) or will by 2010 (18%). The bulk of
respondents are in North America (45%) and Western Europe (46%), where most
of the early SDP adopters are located; the remainder are based in Asia
Pacific (9%).
