Korean Army and Air Force Select 3Com's H3C Enterprise Networking Solutions for Network Upgrade

  Share This Story

SEOUL, Korea - (BUSINESS WIRE) - 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) today announced that it has clinched two deals with the Republic of Korea Army and the Republic of Korea Air Force to upgrade their local area networks (LANs) using 3Com's H3C enterprise solutions portfolio. These wins highlight 3Com's success in becoming a powerhouse technology supplier to the defense industry, in addition to its existing strengths in the finance and education sectors in Korea.

Following rigorous tests conducted with the help of the Telecommunication Technology Association in Korea, the Army and Air Force picked 3Com's solutions for the security, scalability and reliability of the H3C portfolio, as well as its price-performance advantage. The tests centered on hardware-based IPv6, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and non-blocking switching fabrics.

Jae-Jin Oh, 3Com's Country Manager for Korea said, "With 3Com's broad H3C enterprise product portfolio and excellent solution price-performance, we have been strengthening our position in the large enterprise, finance and education sectors in Korea. These two marquee wins in the defense sector are further proof that our strategy of focusing on high growth verticals is gaining traction."

These two projects will see 3Com overhauling the organizations' LANs by replacing existing backbone and workgroup switches with new ones that will serve them for the next seven years.

The new equipment will help the Korean Army and Air Force deploy hardware-based IPv6 without additional upgrades, and its auto voice VLAN feature will help improve the quality and reliability of their IP telephony deployment. The organizations will also enjoy Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) support and advanced services like network port virtualization for resilience and scalability.

The 3Com networking products deployed by the Korean Army and Air Force include:

  • H3C S7500E series - core multi-service routing platform that integrates multiple services such as MPLS VPN, IPv6, network security, wireless and Passive Optical Network (PON) services;
  • H3C S5500-EI series - enterprise-class stackable Layer 2/3/4 switches with Intelligent Resilient Framework (IRF) that can virtualize multiple switches into one logical switch to improve resilience, flexibility and manageability; and
  • H3C S5100 PWR series - next-generation desktop switches that provide high-density GE ports, 10GE uplink, a variety of service features and powerful QoS Access Control List (QACL) functions and can be used in convergence and access systems for intranets and metropolitan area networks (MANs). They can also be used for connecting data center server clusters with high availability and scalability.
