Volkswagen Announces Sales for September on the Eve of the Launch of the New Golf

Volkswagen Canada announced that it sold 3,508 new vehicles in September as it started to ship its eagerly anticipated new Golf Family of vehicles to Dealers across the country. TDI Clean Diesel sales remained strong throughout the month, accounting for 68% of all Jetta and Jetta Wagon deliveries which rose 9.1% over last September, and represented 23% of overall Volkswagen sales. On a year-to-date basis, the availability of TDI Clean Diesel helped increase Jetta model sales by 63% versus 2008. Tiguan sales increased 147.2% during the month, making Volkswagen's small SUV the third best-selling model for the month behind the Jetta and City Golf models. Passat sales also rose during the month by 85.3%.

Total retail sales dipped slightly by 4.2% during the month compared with the same period one year ago, while Volkswagen's market share stayed the same at 2.7% as the overall Canadian light vehicle market decreased by 3.5% versus September 2008.

The very first member of the new Golf Family, a 2010 Golf Wagon TDI Clean Diesel, found a new home immediately during the month and was sold by Saguenay Volkswagen. Volkswagen recently announced pricing for its new Golf Family beginning at $20,175, and full retail availability of the 2010 new Golf, new Golf Wagon, and new Golf GTI models is expected shortly after the start of the advertising and marketing campaign across Canada, scheduled to begin today.

For the first nine months of this year, Volkswagen has delivered 30,119 new vehicles in Canada, and has gained 30 points of market share in Canada for a total of 2.7% year-to-date.
