Bangladesh ranks 3rd amongst the South Asian countries for
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflow for 2008. "The investment in
Bangladesh has crossed $1B this year," said H.E. Sheikh Hasina, Prime
Minister of Bangladesh. This is an increase of 63% compared to the year
prior according to the recent World
Investment Report (WIR) 2009 released in Sept 2009.
The current administration led by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of
Bangladesh, H.E. Sheikh Hasina has created an environment for foreign
investors to share in the building of Bangladesh through public /
private partnership. This is a commitment that includes the building of
infrastructure, power, broadband access and digitizing all areas of the
government. The major areas of FDI include manufacturing, construction,
power / energy, hospitality, telecommunications, outsourcing,
healthcare, education and pharmaceutical. Bangladesh recently announced
a massive infrastructure development plan that includes public works
construction and infrastructure.
"The objective is to make Bangladesh a middle income country by 2021. In
order to transform Bangladesh to Middle Income, our GDP has to grow by
double digit. We believe that the private sector remains the vital actor
in taking Bangladesh in the next level of development for a new
Bangladesh," said Dr. Dipu Moni, Honorable Foreign Minster of
Bangladesh. "Bangladesh sits in the middle [of India & China] with easy
access to almost three and half billion population, almost half of the
world's population," said Mr. Sajeeb Wazed, Advisor to Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina. "Bangladesh is committed to a status of an emerged nation
by heavily investing in infrastructure, technology and education. The Digital
Bangladesh initiative of the current administration offers
tremendous opportunities for foreign investors," said H. E. Akramul
Qader, Ambassador of Bangladesh in the USA.
"I am glad to see the serious commitment by the Bangladesh Government on
the collaboration of public / private partnership to make this an
emerged country. Bangladesh is poised to be the next Asian Tiger," said Savio
Chan, President, USPAAC-NE.
"With the advance of technology, we no longer are limited by territorial
boundaries but buy our own imagination. Bangladesh offers investors to
attain financial rewards but also the extra benefit of helping millions
of people move forward. Bangladesh has all the elements to create a new
nation that can become the jewel in South Asia," said Aziz Ahmad, CEO
UTC Associates & Chairman US Bangladesh Partners.
