BOSTON - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Stephen M. Weiner, Chair of the Health Law Practice at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, PC, has been named to Nightingale's 2009 list of Outstanding Hospital Lawyers.

Practicing in the firm's Boston office, Mr. Weiner has over 30 years of experience in the health care field as a policy maker, educator, and attorney representing health care services providers in a broad array of legal matters, including strategic positioning, structuring of payer strategies, and clinical integration initiatives. He has also been integral in developing, monitoring, and restructuring relationships between hospitals and physicians, in representing providers in regulatory and reimbursement matters and working on matters specific to academic medical centers.

Additionally, Mr. Weiner has been involved in a number of domestic and international health care initiatives. For example, he was active in matters relating to the development and implementation of Massachusetts' signature health care reform program and is currently involved in implementing Massachusetts' initiative to create a state-wide interoperable electronic health record system using both Commonwealth and federal stimulus legislation funds. Internationally, Mr. Weiner's work has included structuring the health care regulatory system for the Dubai Healthcare City, where he now also serves as one of the three members of the licensing board, and representing a number of organizations engaged in the medical tourism industry.

"As one of only ten attorneys across the country to receive this honor, Steve's recognition is well-deserved, considering his high-profile accomplishments on both a national and international level," said Karen Lovitch, Managing Member of the firm's Health Law Practice. "Steve is a fixture in the health care industry, and his counsel is held in high regard by the industry's biggest players."

Mr. Weiner also works extensively with the U.S. Department of Defense on matters relating to the TRICARE Prime benefit and the operations of the U.S. Family Health Plan program. He is a graduate of Harvard College, magna cum laude, and of Yale Law School.

The list of Outstanding Hospital Lawyers is published annually by Nightingale's Healthcare News, a newsletter serving the health care industry.
