Due to budget circumstances, Sutter Middle School Principal Kerri Philips says school libraries are scheduled to close on August 31, 2009. There is a possibility they may open a few days a week if changes occur after that date.
Libraries should be accessible every day, and Folsom's Sutter Middle School and PTA are working to save their library!
The fundraiser began August 12 and is scheduled to end today, August 26th. They are hoping to celebrate August 28th, during PE classes.
Each Friday the Cougars run one mile for their PE class ... so on august 28th, after the fitness run, they plan to celebrate with some FUN and Funds. After completing the run there will be a celebration with Popcorn, music and otterpops.
Any amount helps. From $5.00 to $5000.00! Checks should be made payable to Sutter PTA. The kids are asking their families, neighbors, relatives, coaches, businesses and anyone else they can think of to help out.
Businessses can help and some employers may have matching funds programs for charitable donations.
Last year, the Sutter Middle School library was open 177 days of the school year and had a circulation of 14,920. They offered 11,520 books for checkout, as well as 14 computer workstations for student use, numerous periodicals and a knowledgeable, helpful librarian.
Their aim is to keep the library open year round.
