Chairman of the National Panthers Party, Prof. Bhim Singh who is also a Member of National Integration Council has urged the Government of India for its intervention in Gilgit-Baltistan region of Jammu and Kashmir for the protection of a large human race who are citizens of India by virtue of Accession of Jammu and Kashmir with the Union of India on October 27, 1947.
The Panthers Party received a delegation from Gilgit who made a strong appeal to the Government of India and other political parties to extend support to the cause of the liberation of the people of Gilgit from the brutal army rule of 60 years.
The Panthers Party Chairman accused Pakistan for forcibly and illegally occupying over 28,000 sq. miles of J&K Territory and the completely denying the residents of Gilgit, Baltistan, Hunza, their basic human rights, civil and political freedoms. He said nearly 15 lacs. citizens of India in Gilgit region have remained without any social, economic, political or civic right since 1947 when the last Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Brig. Ghansara Singh was abducted and detained by the Muslim Scouts with the support of Pak-army and the people of Gilgit were brought under the military dictatorship of Pakistan after the ceasefire was ordered by the United Nations.
Prof. Bhim Singh appealed to the political parties in India and POK also extend their support to the people of Gilgit region who were occupied by Pakistani army in violation of Resolution of the UNCIP dated 13th August, 1948.
Since then the entire Gilgit-Baltistan is being ruled by a Lt. Colonel of Pak-army and a Tehsildar with no political freedom and no civil administration. Strategic area of Chitral which forms part of Gilgit has been dissected by Pakistan and annexed with Swat area of Pakistan.
