Matteo's Restaurant in Los Angeles set to inter-tain while hosting historical benchmark
LOS ANGELES (EWORLDWIRE) Aug 18, 2009
Producers Keith O'Leary and Margo Morrison took the mystery out of creating a successful business in 1985 when they mustered up their first Murder Mystery. The talented team is celebrating a 25th year of Murder Mystery Weekend and Murder Mystery USA productions and 8,000th show on October 3, 2009, at Matteo's Restaurant in Los Angeles.
O'Leary and Morrison unveiled what was originally supposed to be just a part-time business in Burbank, Calif. Their backgrounds in motion picture, television, and theatrical production formed the foundation for pioneering the murder mystery concept around the country, and the duo's spirit behind the performances served to raise the pasttime's popularity. Once called "The Masterminds of the Genre" by the Los Angeles Times, the mystery weekends, dinners and events have been co-hosted by such luminaries as Mary Higgins Clark, Peter Falk, and Dr. Henry Lee.
Nearly 350 productions annually are enjoyed in a weekend or one-night format, and they have been produced all over the world and in every major city and resort in North America as well as in cities across Europe. An estimated 5,000 shows - with some as far distant as Tel Aviv - have been produced as corporate entertainment events.
From the Concorde to cruise ships and the American Orient Express, the producers have staged some very interesting and sometimes unconventional venues worldwide during the course of these productions. Television episodes on shows such as Moonlighting, The Golden Girls and Reno 911, as well as a home-murder, mystery party industry with a profusion of Internet companies promoting "How To" kits, are extensions of the Murder Mystery concept.
Traversing the continent between Los Angeles and a home on the Maine coast, O'Leary and Morrison write, produce and direct their own material while digging up dirt from today's headlines. What distinguishes their deeds is the unique way they twist their thrillers to extend beyond skits or what the Murder Mystery Mavens have tagged as the "Feather-boa."
The contemporary "in your face" CSI-form of investigation is coupled with a sizeable dosing of humor they embody, fleshed out as "Comicide."
