CTIA Fall Ed Sessions Zone in on Mobile Business, Advertising, Healthcare & Smart Energy

WASHINGTON - (BUSINESS WIRE) - International CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment 2009 today announced its educational program, which will feature more than 125 industry leaders speaking on the latest trends and emerging opportunities in mobile business, healthcare, advertising, smart energy, applications, infrastructure, content and public policy. CTIA Educational Sessions take place on Wednesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 8 from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. International CTIA WIRELESS IT & E takes place October 7-9 at the San Diego Convention Center.

Executives from AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, Verizon Wireless, and Virgin Mobile will kick off CTIA's Educational Sessions on Wednesday, October 7 to offer the "Carrier Perspective" and discuss the relevance, growth and latest trends in mobile advertising, including how advertising may be used to drive usage of paid mobile data services.

Executives from Accenture, Bechtel Communications, Cisco, KORE Telematics, Motorola, and NV Energy will examine new ways for utility companies to conserve resources and operate more efficiently in "Smart Energy - Telecom Takes Utilities Green," on Thursday, October 8. They'll address strategies for utility companies to really "go green" with remote monitoring and smart grids and discuss technology developments that are hastening the process.

Also on October 8, executives from IDC, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and Texas Instruments will participate in "Smartphone - The Impact of a Fully Functional Device." The session will examine what's next for this fast-growing market segment, which accounts for 25 percent of worldwide traffic. The discussion will address key drivers, barriers, and trends influencing the smartphone market. Topics will include driving mobile data consumption and what handset vendors, OS vendors and mobile operators can do to increase smartphone adoption.

"Mobile business is forging ahead as the economy continues to recover," said Robert Mesirow, vice president and show director for CTIA. "Our education program is designed to deliver real world strategies for leveraging wireless to improve productivity and the bottom line."

The educational program at this year's International CTIA WIRELESS IT & E has been expanded to offer six tracks including:

  • Mobile Business - looks at real world deployments and case studies on cutting-edge mobile capabilities that CIOs and IT managers can leverage to boost their companies' internal productivity. Companies participating include: Altman Vilandrie & Company, Cellfire, Crone Consulting, Ericsson, Inside Contactless, Interop Technologies, LLC, Mobile Tag, Inc., Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions, NAVTEQ, Samsung Telecommunications America, TeleNav, Inc., Urban Mapping, Inc., and VIVOTECH.
  • Critical Infrastructure - examines the next generation of mobile technologies enabling innovation in energy conservation, education and other government sectors that will allow public safety, education and other government sectors to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Companies participating include: Accenture, Cisco, KORE Telematics, LearningMate Solutions Canada Ltd, Motorola, Nokia, NV Energy, Research In Motion, and Spectrum Bridge.
  • Mobile Applications - looks at the latest trends and development cycles influencing tomorrow's applications revealing what carriers, application developers and marketing professionals are doing to make the most of mobile's unique capabilities. Companies participating include: Asurion Mobile Applications, BilltoMobile, ClairMail, Danal, Inc., Firethorn, a Qualcomm company, Handmark, iSkoot, Monitise, NewBay Software, Scanbuy, and TeleCommunication Systems, Inc.
  • Mobile Media & Content – provides insights on the wireless data market and how it is adapting content and applications to engage users and leverage the consumer's emerging "mobile identity." Media and content-focused strategies from wireless carriers, content providers, media companies and brands will also be revealed. Companies participating include: AT&T Interactive, Ansible, HipLogic, MobiTV, MTV Networks, NBC Universal Digital Distribution, NewBay Software, OpenMarket, Tele Atlas, thePlatform, Comcast's online video publishing subsidiary, and Virgin Mobile USA.
  • Mobile Healthcare - will highlight how cutting-edge wireless technologies are assisting hospitals, physicians and others in both improving healthcare management and promoting treatment and wellness. Sessions will also examine healthcare management and protecting the privacy and security of patient records. Companies participating include: 3banana Inc., AARP, Arvani Group, Corventis, Entra Health Systems, Freescale Semiconductor, Inc., Frost and Sullivan, Jitterbug, Inc., MedApps, Inc., Parks Associates, PatientSafe Solutions, Proteus Biomedical, Inc, Research In Motion, and Wound Technology Network.
  • State and Federal Public Policy – will explore policy issues generated by consumers' increased reliance on innovative third and fourth generation mobile wireless products and services and the legislative and regulatory challenges and opportunities facing policymakers.
