Watauga's Chef Point Cafe Wows National Critics, Continues to Innovate

  Share With Friends

WATAUGA, TX, August 18, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Why are Paula Dean, the Food Network's Guy Fieri, and NPR's Kitchen Sisters all raving about a Texas convenience store? It's because, along with fuel and fountain drinks, the Conoco station and C-store at 5901 Watauga Road also serves up five-star meals by Chef Franson Nwaeze in its Chef Point Cafe.

"We were having trouble securing a loan for the restaurant because it's a high risk sector," explains co-owner Paula Nwaeze, "but a loan for a service station was easy, so we bought this place, installed the kitchen, and here we are!" Over the following 6 years, this innovative "mom and pop gourmet" diner has earned rave reviews from local and national critics alike for its rack of lamb, crab cake pasta, escargot, and other delicacies.

Not content to rest on their laurels, Franson and Paula continue to shake things up with a new Sunday Comfort Food menu debuting Sunday, September 6, which will feature Chef Franson's take on a recipe for East Texas Meatloaf by David Keith, winner of July's comfort food recipe contest. Runners up are Jessica Aumoeualogo for her Polynesian Meatloaf and Heather Kincannon for Heather's Heavenly Pot Pie. The winning recipes are available on Chef Point Cafe's Facebook page.

"Our philosophy is that excellent food doesn't have to be stuffy or expensive," says Paula. "You can serve first-rate meals in a relaxed, friendly space where anyone can go and feel comfortable. We think of our customers as friends, so the contest was just another way of sharing with them."

Also on the new Sunday menu you'll find favorites like savory pot roast and oven baked macaroni and cheese, all prepared with the Chef Franson touch that transforms any dish into a culinary delight worthy of the finest linen-tablecloth bistro.

So next time you're in Watauga, or anywhere near Dallas/Ft. Worth, do yourself a favor and stop by the Chef Point Cafe to enjoy a dynamite meal in the easygoing atmosphere of one of America's truly one-of-a-kind eateries.About Chef Point Cafe
