Seeks Support for Liberation of Gilgit from Pakistan

Mr. Abdul Hamid Khan, Chairman of Balawaristan National Front in Gilgit-Baltistan called on Prof. Bhim Singh, Chairman, National Panthers Party and Member, National Integration Council late last evening before his departure from India and made a strong appeal for support to the movement to liberate Gilgit-Baltistan including Chitral from the illegal occupation of Pakistan.

Mr. Hamid expressed gratitude to the Panthers Chief for his consistent and continuous support to the people Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral. Gilgit region which was occupied by the Pakistani Army in 1948 after the cease-fire was ordered by the UNCIP. Gilgit-Baltistan-Hunza and Askardu have been converted into a colony by Pakistan whereas entire Chitral area which formed part of Gilgit has been annexed as a District of Pakistan with two lacs.

Population adjoining Swat in violation of the UN resolution of August 13, 1948, Mr. Hamid Khan also presented a memorandum and a book on the plight of the residents of Dardistan, Askardu, Gilgit and other areas. Mr. Hamid Khan was imprisoned and expelled from Gilgit for his anti-Pakistani occupation movement. He has taken political shelter in a European country from where he has been organizing the people to prepare them for the final battle for liberation. He accused a handful of people who played as a tool in the hands of fundamentalists and detained Governor Brig. Ghansara Singh in 1948 and said that it was a great blunder for which entire Gilgit region is suffering. He said that people of Gilgit-Baltistan are being governed by the wolves and India must support them as Gilgit region forms integral and constitutional part of Jammu and Kashmir.

Mr. Khan on his departure from India made an earnest appeal to India for its intervention for the people of Gilgit whom India takes as its citizens to force Pakistan to vacate all its civilians settlers and armed forces from Chitral-Gilgit-Baltistan areas, restore the concept of State Subject rule and release the political prisoners from jails without delay. Mr. Khan said that Pakistan should hold referendum in Gilgit-Baltistan-Chitral instead of talking about the right of self-determination of the Kashmiris.

The people of J&K on the Indian side have been enjoying their right of franchise and so are the people in POK what about two million people in Gilgit region have remained like herds of cattle since 1948. There is no civil rule, no judicial system and no rule of law. He demanded referendum in entire Gilgit region in the United Nations care so that the people in that part of J&K can decide their future. We do not want to live under the wolf rule any more.
