Church's Chicken Brings a Glimmer of Economic Sunshine to Atlanta, Georgia, Community with Another 'Random Act of Goodness'
ATLANTA - (BUSINESS WIRE) - On August 14, 2009, Harsha V. Agadi, President and Chief Executive
Officer of Church's Chicken will officially round out the
10-city Random Acts of Goodness initiative in Atlanta, Georgia, the
hometown of the quick service restaurant chain's headquarters. Random
Acts of Goodness occur when Church's executives surprise a randomly
selected Church's customer with $1,000 of "no-strings" cash to pay bills
or pay it forward. Agadi also plans to make the grand finale of the
first wave of the Random Acts of Goodness campaign more special by
"upping the ante" with a surprise that will impact hundreds of Atlanta
community students, parents and teachers. In observance of the act, The
City of Atlanta has proclaimed August 14th "Random Acts of
Goodness Day."
"We kicked off the Random Acts of Goodness in San Antonio, where
Church's was founded," said Agadi. "Now it's time to spread the goodwill
in Atlanta, the place we've called home for many years."
Since the Random Acts of Goodness began, executives from Church's
Chicken have traveled across the nation giving away thousands of cash to
customers as a way to say "thank you." One of the largest chicken chains
in the world, Church's has experienced six consecutive years of sales
growth globally.
So far, Church's executives have personally handed out almost $20,000 to
customers across the nation from many walks of life, including students,
nurses, retired senior citizens, mothers and teachers. The brand is
challenging industry peers to pay it forward in authentic gestures that
resonate with the community. In a time like this where most families are
struggling due to the down economy, Church's is focusing its efforts on
helping people where they need it most: their wallets.
"The small act of giving away $1,000 can make a big impact on someone's
life by helping them to pay rent, medical bills, loans and other bills,"
Agadi added.
Paula Salas, the first Random Act of Goodness recipient in San Antonio,
is a 5th grade teacher who planned to use the money to help
decorate her classroom. Sarah Rembert, a medical clerk in Birmingham,
Alabama, was another recipient and said she would use the money to pay
for school expenses for her daughter. Marzetta Tolber, a student at
Virginia College, said she would use the money to pay off some of her
student loans. Bonnie Purwal who was recently laid off in Houston, was
another recipient.
In addition to giving away cash to a customer on August 14th, Agadi will
announce an additional act to give a boost that will positively affect
hundreds of local Atlanta school students, parents and teachers in time
for back-to-school season. Agadi will announce details of the effort at
the Atlanta store location, where he will appear to surprise the
unsuspecting Church's customer.
"Church's Chicken has had great fortune globally, and the Random Acts of
Goodness represents our way of giving back to the people in our loyal
Atlanta community," said Agadi. "With the finale of the campaign, I want
to make it really special, focusing on the students of Atlanta."
Church's is dropping clues about where this $1,000 "no-strings" Random
Act of Goodness will occur in Atlanta on their Twitter@ChurchsChicken
page. Church's has challenged its customers to show that they know "what
good is" by uploading their random acts of goodness via tweets, video,
podcast or photos on the brand's Twitter page. As the finale gets
closer, the brand will post more detailed Twitter clues of the location,
finally giving out the exact address on the hour of the giveaway.
