Birdies for Breast Cancer Announces Fifth Annual Charity Golf Classic Hosted by Top Women's Golfer, Cristie Kerr

      

NEW YORK, July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Birdies for Breast Cancer, the nonprofit organization established by Cristie Kerr in 2003 with a mission to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, announced today the fifth annual charity golf classic will be held at Liberty National. The event, on Friday, August 14, 2009, will feature an afternoon of golf followed by a dinner reception and poker tournament. Renowned celebrity chef Todd English will steer the menu for the evening. All proceeds will benefit Birdies for Breast Cancer. Corporate partners of this year's event include Fireman Capital Partners, Audemars Piguet, Sweet 'n Low, Clemmy's Ice Cream, Knight Capital Group, Continental Airlines and the Ritz Carlton.

Cristie Kerr is recognized as one of the top women's professional golfers in the world and currently ranks #1 on three of the Ladies Professional Golf Association's most prestigious lists, topping Player of the Year, Money List, and Scoring Average. Recording ten top-ten finishes in 16 tournaments this year, Cristie recently became the sixth women's golfer and second American to surpass the $10 million dollar mark in career earnings.

Cristie's personal connection to breast cancer is a product of watching firsthand her mother's diagnosis and battle with the disease. She will be joined by a number of celebrity athletes at the Birdies for Breast Cancer Charity Golf Classic, including LPGA tour members Natalie Gulbis, Morgan Pressel, Brittany Lincicome and Erica Blasberg, as well other sports stars and celebrities including Vincent Lecavalier from the NHL and Doug Flutie from the NFL.

Birdies for Breast Cancer will present Suzanne Pride Bryan, Co-Owner of Pride Vineyards, with the 2009 Courage Award, granted to individuals who have shown exceptional bravery and leadership in coping with breast cancer. Pride, a breast cancer survivor, will receive the award for her exemplary courage and determination.

Previously held in Miami, Philadelphia, Orlando and Scottsdale, proceeds from the 2009 Birdies for Breast Cancer Charity Golf Classic will be dedicated to establishing the Cristie Kerr Women's Health Center at LibertyHealth's Jersey City Medical Center. The installation marks the first comprehensive breast health center in Hudson County and will provide breast cancer screenings to the insured as well as the uninsured.
