mun2 Announces Phil Schoen and Marcelo Balboa as Commentators for English-Language Broadcast of Rumbo Al Mundial - Mexico vs. USA World Cup Qualifier
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - mun2 (moon-dos), the lifestyle cable network for bi-cultural Latinos
18-34, announced today the commentators for the network's broadcast of
the August 12, 2009 Rumbo Al Mundial - Mexico vs. USA World Cup
qualifier match. Play-by-play veteran Phil Schoen and Marcelo Balboa,
former defenseman for the U.S. national team, will join mun2 for the
highly-anticipated match.
Schoen has been calling soccer games on television for nearly 25 years.
He is one of the sport's most recognized play-by-play broadcasters and
hosts various shows in addition to his play-by-play duties. He has
provided play-by-play coverage for three World Cup tournaments,
including broadcasting for XM Satellite Radio across North America for
the 2006 World Cup. From 1996-2001, Schoen was a primary soccer
announcer for Major League Soccer and numerous international tournaments.
As a player, Balboa earned the nickname, "Iron Man" and made over 130
match appearances. He is one of only two players to win U.S. Soccer's
Chevrolet Male Athlete of the Year Award twice. Following his career on
the field, Balboa served as the top soccer analyst during the 2004 and
2008 Olympics and the 2006 World Cup.
Coverage of the game on mun2 will be called, "Showdown at the Azteca"
and will be produced by Deportes Telemundo exclusively in English for
mun2. Guadalupe Venegas, host of mun2's 18 & Over, will serve as studio
host. Coverage will begin at 3:55pm Eastern, 12:55pm Pacific on
mun2.
mun2 recently surpassed 31 million U.S. households in national
distribution and is carried by numerous major MVPDs on digital basic
packages in the top media markets. mun2 programming includes popular
series such as, "The Chicas Project," "18 and Over," "The mun2 Hook Up,"
and, "Reventon Countdown."
Additionally, mun2 is offering the entire multiplatform video
programming distribution (MVPD) industry the opportunity to carry mun2
on August 12, 2009, for the match. The network will be available to all
distribution partners who want to carry it as a free preview on that day.

The broadcast of the game will be preceded by a special edition of The
mun2 Shuffle. The show will have pre-game fun facts and taped
music performances. Immediately following the game, mun2 will also air a
special mun2 presents- The Best of mun2. This show will
give new audiences highlights of all of mun2's original shows like, The
Chicas Project, The mun2 The Hook Up, Reventon
Countdown and 18 and Over, among others.
