"Farmers in an eastern Indian state have asked their unmarried daughters to plow parched fields naked in a bid to embarrass the weather gods to bring some badly needed monsoon rain, officials said on Thursday.

Witnesses said the naked girls in Bihar state plowed the fields and chanted ancient hymns after sunset to invoke the gods. They said elderly village women helped the girls drag the plows." Reuters

Mother Nature is impervious to the chants, hymns and prayers offered in the name of countless deities. Mother Nature lets it rain according to her own whims, and Jesus, Allah, Jehovah and the million and one Hindu gods mean about as much to her as Tinky Winky and Barney the purple dinosaur.

God bless a religion that inspired young girls to plow parched fields butt naked! The Reuters article mentions "witnesses", I have a stinking suspicion that all the witlessness were men.

I'm glad that the elderly village women helped the girls by dragging the plows, and not by also shedding their clothes.

The villagers have vowed that the girls will continue to plow naked until the rains pour down from heaven. If I lived in that village I would be very conflicted: Do I want the drought to end, or do I want to continue to enjoy watching the naked young girls?
