Aptilo Partners With Zylog in Bringing Internet Freedom to India

Forming a First-Class Wireless Internet Data and Voice User Experience Together With AvaBill and Nexge

Aptilo Networks, the global leader in integrated solutions for control of billing, user services and access in WiMAX(TM) and Wi-Fi networks, announced today that Zylog Systems India Limited (ZSIL), a subsidiary of leading global software solutions and services provider Zylog Systems Limited, has chosen Aptilo Networks to provide the back-end systems enabling its unique Wi5 wireless broadband offering throughout India.

Zylog's Wi5 service is now live in a part of Chennai, which will soon become the first Wi-Fi-enabled city in India. Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad will be added in the next year covering approximately 1,600 km squared and hundreds of thousands of users. ZSIL has obtained a category 'A' Internet service provider license to operate in all of India's DoT circles, and is planning to blanket a total of 40 cities in India with a footprint of more than 12,000 km squared and millions of subscribers within the next five years.

Broadband Internet penetration in India, the second most populous country in the world(1), is very low at 0.5%, with six million broadband subscribers in the beginning of 2009(2). There is a vast segment of population that does not have access to broadband primarily due to availability and prohibitive costs. The Wi5 wireless broadband service will empower the population with convenient, high-speed and affordable broadband Internet, ushering in a new era of connectivity for India.

Working with Aptilo's service management platform, the Wi5 service will enable customers to access high-speed wireless broadband easily through their laptops, desktops or mobile devices by subscribing to the Wi5 service on the move. ZSIL has adopted a Wi-Fi mesh network architecture, which makes the wireless network a continuous one. With the Wi5-Aptilo solution, customers enjoy a truly mobile, high-speed, highly secure and easy-to-use wireless broadband connectivity.

The Aptilo Service Management Platform(TM) and multiple Aptilo Access Controller(TM) access gateways are handling Subscriber Management; authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA); policy management; QoS and more. Aptilo has brought in partners Informatics International Limited (AvaBill) for delivering systems for operational support as well as pre-paid/post-paid billing, and Nexge for delivering VoIP services.
