Top Indian Financial Institution Chooses Devon IT TC2 Thin Clients to Replace Desktop PCs

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - India's first and only privately owned SEBI-registered custodial financial services company has replaced its desktop PCs with thin clients, following in the footsteps of financial firms worldwide. Devon IT, Inc., a leader in alternative desktop computing and the fastest growing provider of thin clients, today announced that Orbis Financial Corporation Ltd. has deployed TC2 thin clients to replace traditional desktop computers.

Orbis offers a range of financial services for clients including commercial banks, corporate entities, high net worth individuals, pension funds, stock brokers, and insurance giants. The company's expansion prompted a review of their IT environment, as their business was becoming more technology-driven and the need for secure, scalable, and flexible was vital. The IT department decided that a thin client environment would better suite their needs than their PC environment.

"Being a financial service provider, Orbis is heavily dependent on a robust, secure IT platform," says Ramkumar Mohan, senior manager of IT for Orbis. "One of our key differentiators is 'agility in the face of change.' Our company needs to have the best in data security, system and application availability and performance, user support, and provisioning time. Keeping this in mind, Orbis has deployed Devon IT's TC2 thin clients, virtualization software, blade servers, and a greener datacenter due to the solution's ability to deliver what we need to be successful."

The TC2 is VDI, Xen, and RDP-capable and designed to be the most efficient and cost-effective alternative to standard PCs. Standing less than six inches in height and five inches in length, the TC2 is the market's smallest generally available thin client. It consumes 8-9 watts on average, compared to nearly 150 watts used by PCs, and is VESA-mountable to maximize desktop space.

Devon IT set up a proof-of-concept trial with Orbis that was tested by a fraction of the company's employees. The high-quality end-user performance of the TC2, coupled with partners' virtualization software and datacenter hardware, and the solution's price point were the two main factors in securing the company's business.

"We chose the TC2 solution because of features and costs," notes Ramkumar. "We see a complete value for our money in opting for this solution, as it offers centralized management and control of our IT, much lower TCO, the high security and flexibility we rely on, and fast deployment."

"It is no secret that high-powered thin client technology is now capable of replacing desktop PCs, even in large-scale environments," says Joe Makoid, president of Devon IT. "We were proud to work with Orbis to achieve what companies and organizations are beginning to accomplish all over the world which is to bundle and deploy thin clients, virtualized desktop infrastructures, and green blades and servers instead of aging PCs. Thin client solutions today provide tremendous cost-savings without sacrificing performance, and we expect more companies like Orbis to reap these benefits worldwide."
