Beverage Industry Marketing Expert Sergio Zyman Named Chairman, U & Me Marketing, Inc.
Renowned marketing veteran Sergio Zyman has been
named Chairman of the Board of U & Me Marketing Inc., a Delaware-based
corporation with satellite offices in Canada. The company operates as a
marketing and distribution company focused on leveraging highly popular
brands into the food and beverage category.
Zyman served in top marketing positions at The Coca-Cola Company on two
separate occasions (the second, as Chief Marketing Officer), founded a
pre-eminent marketing strategy firm, and authored four books, including two
international best sellers. His achievements prompted Time magazine to
acknowledge him as "one of the top three marketing pitch men of the 20th
century."
During his second stint with Coca-Cola, Zyman re-conceptualized the
company's marketing strategy and boosted worldwide annual sales from 9 to
15 billion cases -- the most explosive growth in the company's history.
"It's been over 12 years since I have come across an opportunity in the
Food & Beverage Industry that makes this much sense," said Zyman. "U & Me
Marketing combines sales, marketing and distribution into a model unlike
anyone I've seen elsewhere in today's environment. It breaks the mold,
creating value for everyone in the 'value chain' -- the brand, the
consumer, the retailer -- as well as for U & Me Marketing."
"We are thrilled and honored to have Sergio Zyman join our organization,"
said Darryl McDaniel President, U & Me Marketing. "His unparalleled
knowledge of product marketing, particularly in the food and beverage
categories, brings a wealth of expertise to our company that will help our
product releases attain maximum sell through."
Prior to establishing U & Me Marketing, McDaniel served as Senior Strategic
Manager for Wild Flavors, the leading flavor and ingredient maker to the
beverage industry, an integral part of the team who liaised with seven of
the ten most successful beverage brands in the North America. Prior to Wild
Flavors, Mr. McDaniel was with Danone Waters North America where he spent
the last four years as Division Manager responsible for Canada, United
Kingdom and Puerto Rico.
A Mexico City native, Zyman began his career with management positions in
Japan, Brazil, Guatemala and New York before moving to Atlanta to join The
Coca-Cola Company, where, in his first stint, he helped launch Diet Coke,
Cherry Coke and New Coke. This was followed by his formation of Core
Strategy Group, a consulting firm with a client roster that included 7-11
and Miller Brewing Company. During this time, he contributed his marketing
acumen to the team of strategists who secured the Mexican election for
President Vicente Fox.
In 1993, Roberto Goizueta, Chairman of The Coca-Cola Company, persuaded
Zyman to return as its first-ever Chief Marketing Officer. Upon Mr.
Goizueta's death, Zyman departed to write a series of books, including the
international best-seller "The End of Marketing As We Know It."
In 1999, he founded Zyman Group, an international marketing consulting firm
sought after by food and beverage companies, industrial manufacturers,
popular retailers, and global communication powers. Its success prompted
"Inc." magazine to name Zyman Group one of the fastest growing consulting
firms in the United States, and led to the divestiture of Zyman Group to
MDC Partners in 2005.
According to Packaged Facts, the children's beverage segment in the U.S.
alone is projected to grow to $5.8 billion by 2012.
In May, U & Me Marketing launched their first beverage, Chaotic, in more
than 5,300 supermarkets, gas stations and convenience stores throughout
Canada. This fall, the beverage is expected to hit US retail shelves and
next year plans are underway to roll out internationally.
