Tepper School of Business Welcomes 9 New Faculty Members

PITTSBURGH , July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Distinguished by world-class academic research, a pioneering quantitative approach to decision making, and long-standing tradition of faculty who are globally recognized as thought-leaders in their fields, the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University has announced the addition of 10 new faculty members for the 2009-10 academic year.

"We are certainly proud of our faculty at the Tepper School and the contributions that their academic research continues to make for the global business and finance communities," said Kenneth Dunn, dean of the Tepper School. "We welcome our new faculty members who bring international experience from other academic programs and who will continue the tradition of world-class academic research here. Their teaching and perspectives will be beneficial to the academic experience of our students."

Incoming faculty include seven tenure-track professors and two visiting professors.

Timothy Derdenger joins the Tepper School as assistant professor of economics after receiving his doctorate this summer from University of Southern California. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from George Washington University and a master's degree in economics from University of Southern California. His research interests include industrial organization, strategy, empirical industrial organization, competition policy, high technology and media/entertainment strategy. Derdenger has presented research at University of Toulouse and the Federal Communications Commission.

Jeffrey Galak, assistant professor of marketing, earned his Bachelor of Science in marketing and economic theory, Master of Philosophy and Ph.D. at New York University's Stern School of Business. His focal area of research is consumer behavior and understanding the types of experiences that lead to consumer enjoyment. Other research includes hedonic adaptation, variety seeking, affective forecasting, expectation updating and fluency effects. Galak's research has been presented in the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Consumer Psychology.

Anisha Ghosh, assistant professor of finance, comes to the Tepper School from The London School of Economics where she earned her master's degree in economics and is due to complete her doctorate this summer. A native ofIndia, she earned her bachelor's degree in economics at the Presidency College inCalcutta. Ghosh has presented research at the European Meeting of Econometric Society, the European Summer Symposium on Financial Markets and the Western Finance Association Meetings. Her research interests include asset pricing, financial econometrics and macroeconomics.

Jing Li, assistant professor of accounting, joins the Tepper School from Columbia University where she will complete her Ph.D. in accounting this summer. Li earned her bachelor's degree and master's degree in accounting at Tsinghua University inChina. Her research interests include analytical and empirical research in financial accounting -- accounting conservatism, fair value accounting and regulation. Li has presented research at the London Business School Trans-Atlantic Doctoral Conference and the American Accounting Association Annual Meeting.

Emilio Osambela, assistant professor of finance, earned his bachelor's degree in economics at the Universidad del Pacificio inLima, Peru, and achieved his master's degree in economics and doctorate in finance at the Swiss Finance Institute and the University ofLausanne inSwitzerland. His research interests include asset pricing, international finance, heterogeneous beliefs, asymmetric information, limited commitment, financial frictions and risk management. Osambela has presented research at the Symposium on Stochastic Dynamic Models in Finance Economics and the sixth Paris Finance International Meeting.

Nicolas Petrosky-Nadeau, assistant professor of economics, comes to the Tepper School from the University ofQuebec atMontreal upon completing his doctorate in economics this summer. He earned his bachelor's degree in economics from the Institut des HEI inGeneva and master's degree in economics at the Ecole des HEC inMontreal. His research interests include macroeconomics, labor market dynamics, capital market imperfections and international macroeconomics. Petrosky's research has appeared in the Job Market Paper.

Stefano Sacchetto, assistant professor of finance, joins the Tepper school from the London School of Business, where he will complete his Ph.D. this summer. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in economics at the University ofTurin. Sacchetto's research in industrial organization and corporate finance has led to publication in Applied Economics. Sacchetto also has presented research at the CEPR Applied IO Conference and the Transatlantic Doctoral Conference.

Jung Pil Hahn, visiting assistant professor of information systems, comes to the Tepper School, for the term of one year, from Purdue University where he serves as assistant professor of management. Hahn earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and MBA from Yonsei University inSouth Korea and his doctorate in information and decision sciences from the University of Minnesota. His research interests include knowledge management, human-computer interaction, business value of information technology and systems development. Hahn's research has been published in the International Journal of Business and Information Systems Research.

Nachikets Sahoo, visiting assistant professor in information systems, arrives at the Tepper School for a two-year term from Carnegie Mellon University's H. John Heinz III College where he is earning a Ph.D. in information systems. He earned his bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology and achieved a master's degree in knowledge discovery and data mining at Carnegie Mellon's School of Computer Science. Sahoo's research interests include social networks, information retrieval, recommender systems and collaborative filtering. His research has been published in Industrial Engineering Journal, and he has presented at several major information and technology systems events.

In addition, the Tepper School of Business welcomes one post-doctoral fellow.

Albert E. Mannes, post-doctoral fellow in organizational behavior, comes to the Tepper School from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business where he recently completed his Ph.D. He earned his bachelor's degree at the U.S. Military Academy and MBA at the University of Chicago. Mannes' teaching and research interests include judgment and decision-making, conflict and performance in groups and teams, wisdom of crowds, advice-taking and social influence. His recent work, "Are we wise about the wisdom of crowds? The use of group judgments in belief revision," will be published in a forthcoming issue of Management Science.
