Israel Yielding Land for Peace
Contrary to Djelloul Marbrook's perspective, in his story Iran: Surrounded By Friendly Enemies, Israel has yielded land for peace numerous times.
For its peace treaty with Egypt after the 1967 Six-Day and 1973 Yom Kippur Wars, Israel removed competely all its towns, facilities, troops and civilians from the Sinai. In 2005, Israel evacuated over 8,000 citizens from Gaza, which Egypt had invaded and seized during 1949-1967; all their acricultural greenhouses and other buildings left for rebuilding efforts for the Palestinians were demolished by the Arabs there.
We know the subsequent result; in the past 7 years, thousands of rockets still were launched against civilians into Israel proper, destroying schools and homes and making life a living hell for nearby Israeli towns until the IDF had to respond in a three-week blitz to demolish much of the assault capabilities.
After Israel removed all its forces from Lebanon, complying with a UN resolution, Hizbullah launched hundreds of rockets causing village evacuations, home damage and thousands of fires, destroying numerous trees and forests with millions of dollars worth of damage.
The safest area in Israel may now be the Golan Heights, because Israel has declined to yield back the area captured from Syria in 1967, after artillery attacks from the heights had rained upon northern Galilee farmers for years. It is a lesson Israel learned at the cost of great military losses in 1967 and 1973, during multiple invasions by neighboring Arab armies.
