Breaking News: Sarah Palin to Resign At End of Month

By

"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) stunned political observers Friday by announcing she will resign the governorship after just two and a half years in office.

The first-term governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee made the announcement at her home in Wasilla. Some political observers had expected Palin to forgo an opportunity to seek re-election, but few expected Palin to resign office. Her reason for stepping down was not immediately clear.

Alaska's NBC affiliate, KTUU, was the first station to report that Palin would leave office. Her departure paves the way for Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell to be sworn in; KTUU said he would take office at the end of the month. http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/palin-to-resign-at-end-of-month-2009-07-03.html
Per Fox News Palin's husband has confirmed that Palin is resigning.

Most political observers expected Sarah Palin not to run for re-election so she could devote all of her time and energy to seeking the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

But the announcement that Palin is resigning at the end of the month has left even the most seasoned political experts shaking their heads in astonishment.

This is breaking news and Palin has yet to explain why she is quitting.

If Palin has aspirations for higher office this impulsive decision to quit doesn't make any sense. The big money boys aren't going to fund a politician with a reputation for quitting, and not finishing the course.

This humble blogger is perplexed; I remain glued to CNN to find out why Palin is stepping down.
