Hindus Welcome Newly Installed Unitarian Universalist President
Hindus have welcomed the installation of Rev. Peter Morales as the eighth President of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations (UUA).
Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, lauded Morales's statements that his presidency would be "passionately engaged in the great moral issues of our time: economic justice, peace, and human rights" and "together, we can grow our faith and help heal the world" and his concern about "greed and acquisitiveness".
Zed, who is the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, hoped that UUA under Morales would work for promoting interfaith dialogue and cooperating in common causes such as peace, ecological responsibility, social development, etc. with different religions and denominations. Dialogue brought us mutual enrichment and helped us overcome prejudices passed down to us from previous generations, Zed added.
In our shared quest for the truth, we could learn from one another and thus come closer to the truth, Rajan Zed pointed out.
According to the UUA website, "Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion with Jewish-Christian roots. It has no creed." Consolidated in 1961, it has 1,041 congregations in the world and is headquartered in Boston (USA). Hinduism, the oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksha (liberation) is its ultimate goal.
