Shelbyville National Guard aviation brigade OIF departure ceremony
The Indiana National Guard's Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 38th Combat Aviation Brigade, will hold a departure ceremony Sunday, July 5, at the Shelbyville Army Aviation Support Facility at 3:00 PM. Indiana's Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger and Maj. Gen. Tod Carmody, along with friends and families, will send off the 38th.
Nearly 130 aviation brigade Soldiers from the unit, based in Shelbyville, Ind., will depart for Fort Sill, Okla., to hone their skills critical for their time in theater. The unit is commanded by Col. David C. Wood and the unit's top enlisted Soldier is Command Sgt. Maj. John A. Watson.
The Soldiers are scheduled to conduct a wide-range of aviation operations to include medevac flights and battlefield circulation flights in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The unit's deployment time should be no longer than one year.
The unit is located at 3556 N Michigan Rd, Shelbyville, IN and all media are encouraged to attend.
