Spare The Air Mascot Needs Name - Campaign Needs Public To Decide!
Spare the Air Mascot Has Received More than 3,000 Votes
Last Day to Vote for Your Favorite Name
Friday is the last day to vote for your favorite name for Sacramento's newest "pet celebrity" - the Spare The Air Mascot! So far, more than 3,200 people have cast their votes at
www.SpareTheAir.com, putting Dexter in the lead with less then 275 votes over Scooter. It's a neck and neck race. Who will be the winner? It's up to you but hurry, voting ends at midnight Friday, July 3.
The Sacramento region has already experienced three Spare The Air Days this week, and more are anticipated throughout the hot summer months. So when you go to the District's Web site to vote, www.SpareTheAir.com, you should also sign up to receive free daily e-mail Air Alert notices, which can help you plan your outdoor activities, even on a Spare The Air Day. And, if you enter the promo word "mascot" during the voting period, you will be entered to win a family four-pack of movie tickets to any Cinemark Theatre. What a great way to help the environment and stay cool this summer.
Last month, kids age 12 and under in the Sacramento area were asked to submit entries with name suggestions and a brief essay on why their name was the best. More than 150 entries were submitted, and four names have been selected as finalists. The Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District and the air districts of the Sacramento region need your help picking the best name!
The new 2009 Spare The Air campaign hopes to remind families that air pollution affects everyone, especially children, the elderly and even pets. For more information on the 2009 Spare The Air season, please visit www.SpareTheAir.com.
