Kashmiris Squeezed Into a Tight Corner: Pro-Indian Politician
By Fayaz Wani
Srinagar, July 2: A pro-Indian woman politician and president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti has said that people in Kashmir were being squeezed into a tight corner by Indian government.
Addressing media persons after being denied permission to visit North Kashmir, Mehbooba said, "Kashmir government was completely cut off from the ground situation as was evident from recent statement of the Chief Minister. It was regrettable that a Chief Minister should have said that his government was least effected by strikes, which conveyed an impression that he had closed his eyes and ears to public outrage and protest".
"People of Kashmir has been squeezed into a tight corner, if they come out on streets they face bullets and if their representatives in the Kashmir assembly wanted to register their protest and express solidarity with the people they too were subjected to brute force," she said.
Mebooba said the government intentions of hushing up the case and shielding the culprits was now very clear. "Instead of going after the perpetrators they were busy silencing those who demanded action," she said.
Mehbooba said she and her colleagues wanted to go to Baramulla only to condole the death and share the grief of families four victims of Police brutality
