At the suggestion of Winstead Legal Secretary Susan Dunn in Austin , attorneys and support staff in each city have been purchasing new fans for seniors who need help staying cool this summer. Many seniors in Texas live in homes that don't provide enough ventilation and insulation to help them stay cool in these hot summer months.

Winstead offices inDallas,Fort Worth,Houston,The Woodlands,Austin andSan Antonio were able to collect over 175 fans, which will be distributed by a collaborating agency in each city.

Winstead employees were asked to bring a new fan to work and to have the fans delivered in time for the July 4th weekend in order to provide "Freedom from the Heat" for the local seniors in need. Those employees who took mass transit were given the option to donate money and volunteer Winstead shoppers purchased fans for them.

The best part of the fundraiser was the contagious good will it created. Once Winstead vendors and clients heard about the fan collection, many started donating fans and/or giving monetary contributions to buy fans, including Greenwood Office Supplies inDallas and Home Depot inThe Woodlands. Many other Winstead clients gave monetary donations to help the shoppers in each city buy more fans.

The Winstead offices collected a total of 179 fans as of July 2, 2009, and expect more contributions before the holiday weekend begins. The fans collected, ranging from standard floor fans to 18-inch pedestal fans and 20-inch weather seal box fans, will be delivered over the next week by the respective city's designated agency.
