Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Seeks to Provide Mind, Body and Spirit Healing for Combat Stress

PARK CITY, Utah , July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- From July 13-17, 16 female wounded warriors from around the country will take part in outdoor activities like ropes courses, rock climbing, horseback riding and water sports as part of Wounded Warrior Project's Project Odyssey. Project Odyssey brings together veterans with combat stress and post-traumatic stress disorder for activities that offer healthy support in the healing process. This Project Odyssey will take place at the National Ability Center in Park City, Utah . Since 2007, seven groups of 15-20 warriors have taken part in Project Odyssey.

The Raven Drum Foundation will also be at the event to facilitate self-care workshops including healing drum circle sessions. Def Leppard's drummer Rick Allen and his wife, Lauren Monroe, founded Raven Drum to help veterans deal with their personal challenges using the healing power of music and drumming. Lauren Monroe will facilitate the workshops.

"All too often veterans return home feeling isolated and misunderstood," stated John Roberts, National Service Director for Wounded Warrior Project. "The mission behind WWP and Project Odyssey is to empower these wounded warriors with a range of coping skills to help them move forward in their recovery process."

National Ability Center CEO Dale Schoon said, "For almost 25 years, we've provided opportunities to veterans to participate in activities that help them gain confidence and self-esteem. We're excited to have the first exclusively female group coming this year."

Wounded Warrior Project believes that nature and recreation are powerful tools for healing the spirit and mind. Recreational experiences assist participants in developing self-esteem and self-confidence, improving mental attitudes and outlook, and providing opportunities to enrich relationships with families, friends and peers.
