Food 4 Less Removes Beef Products Recalled by JBS Swift Beef Co.

CHICAGO , July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Food 4 Less stores in Illinois and Indiana have removed from sale all store-brand beef products supplied by JBS Swift Beef Co., which on June 28 expanded its recall of beef that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

Food 4 Less is asking customers to check their freezers at home for certain packages of store- brand and store-packaged ground beef with sell-by dates from April 27 to June 1, 2009. (See below for a list of recalled products with UPCs.) It is important to know that none of these items are in Food 4 Less stores today.

Customers who have the recalled items should not consume them and may return them to Food 4 Less for a full refund or replacement.

As the holiday weekend approaches, Food 4 Less reminds customers to always use a meat thermometer to cook ground beef to an internal temperature of 160° F to ensure it is safe. For a list of safe cooking temperatures for other fresh meat and more information about how to properly handle and cook it, please visit www.food4less.com/safefood.

More information about the JBS Swift Beef Co. recall is available online at www.fsis.usda.gov.

Customers who have questions or concerns may call 1-800-632-6900.
