Jammu Kashmir Peoples League convened a one day seminar under the theme "Kashmir Imbroglio & its future and Remember Martyrdom of Shaheed-e-Azeemat, Sheikh Abdul Aziz" which was presided over by Peoples League Chief Organizer Pervaiz Ahmad Dar.
While speaking on the occasion Pervaiz Ahmad Dar said that Shaheed-e-Azeemat, Sheikh Abdul Aziz was a committed and dedicated pro-freedom leader whose sacrifice has given a new dimension to the ongoing Kashmir freedom struggle.
"His mission shall be taken to the logical conclusion utterly," Pervaiz Dar said.
He said greater unity among Kashmiri Hurriyat leadership is needed to take the liberation movement to the logical end. He maintained that an amicable settlement to the Kashmir issue could be reached only through a tripartite dialogue involving India, Pakistan and the people of Kashmir. Any proposed solution that does not take into account the aspirations of the Kashmiri people is bound to fail.
Demanding stern action against the culprits in the double rape and murder case in Shopian, Pervaiz Dar said that the government was trying to shield the culprits, instead of showing sympathy with the bruised pride and dignity of Kashmiris, whose daughters have been raped, murdered and mutilated. "The puppet authorities have engaged police and bureaucratic machinery to muzzle the voice of the people," he said.
He hailed the determination and steadfastness of Shopian people who have been protesting and observing strikes for the past month without break, demanding punishment to the culprits involved in the heinous crime.
He also insisted the sympathizers and activists of Peoples League should make this peaceful political resistance organization an effective platform to which common Kashmiris will reckon with so that the dream Sheikh Abdul Aziz (Martyr of determination) is fulfilled.
Meanwhile Ghulam Nabi Waseem, addressing a mammoth gathering in the seminar, emphasized that Kashmiris' unparalleled sacrifices to secure their right to self-determination will never be allowed to go to waste. He urged India to immediately stop human rights violations, repeal black laws, release political detainees and withdraw its troops from Jammu and Kashmir. He said that India has always tried to suppress the voice of Kashmiri people by military might.
Abdul Salam Rajporai, a close associate of Shaheed-e-Azeemat, in a seminar paid rich tributes to the Shaheed-e-Azeemat, Sheikh Abdul Aziz. "Since we are the wardens to the sacrifices of Kashmiris, we have had to carry the mission of martyrs to the logical conclusion," Salam Rajpori said.
He said that the puppet administration was unnecessarily delaying the completion of the probe into the double murder and rape case despite assurances by the Indian Prime Minister, Manmoham Singh that the culprits would be brought to justice. The killers are at large and the puppet administration is only holding out verbal assurances and doing practically nothing to bring them to justice.
Bashir Ahmad Wani strongly condemned the arrest of pro-freedom leaders and termed the detention of Hurriyat leaders a tactic to create harassment among the people. He said that such tactics could not break the resolve of Kashmiri people to continue their struggle for the right to self-determination. Ghulam Qadir Rah urged unity among the separatist leadership as imperative. He said Kashmir is a political issue that could be resolved politically only through tripartite talks between the Kashmiri leadership, India and Pakistan.
Peace in the subcontinent cannot be restored unless and until the core issue of Kashmir imbroglio is addressed seriously because it is only peace that can guarantee prosperity and development in the region, Qadir said.
Meanwhile the Peoples League strongly condemned the arrest of Executive Member and party acting chairman Mukhtar Ahmad Waza along with four members from Pulwama. They went to attend a seminar organized in connection with the martyrdom of the APHC leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz. Others who were arrested included the General Secretary of PL Muhammad Ashraf Sofi, Spokesman of Pl Ghulam Nabi Darzi, Muhammad Maqbool Sofi and Eijaz Ahmed. In the seminar Sheikh Abdul Rashid, brother of martyred Sheikh Abdul Aziz was present along with hundreds of people.
