Mass Moonwalk in Honor of Michael Jackson The King of Pop

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A huge crowd gathered in London, UK on Friday for a mass 'moonwalk' - paying tribute to Michael Jackson by dancing to his most iconic songs and replicating his famous walk.

The horde of people gathered on the streets outside Liverpool Street train station, one of the city's major transport hubs, and burst out into cheers, chants and dances to the tunes of "Billie Jean," "Bad" and "Thriller."

Life-long Jackson fan Milo Yiannopoulos organized the moonwalk, the singer's trademark backwards shuffle, by sending messages via Twitter and Facebook." http://edition.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music/06/26/michael.jackson.moonwalk.london/?iref=mpstoryview#cnnSTCText

Music is the language of love, and Michael Jackson's music brought joy to people from all over the world. But today the death of the King of Pop has unleashed rivers of tears in America as well as Hungary, Japan, Russia and the UK.

People are celebrating the life and legacy of Michael Jackson in many ways. Many radio stations are playing only Michael Jackson songs this weekend in homage to the King of Pop. There have been candle light vigils held in many countries to pay tribute to the Gloved One.

Perhaps the most unusual tribute to Michael Jackson is the mass moonwalk held in London. I remember when I first saw Michael Jackson moonwalk during the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever special on TV. I thought it was an optical illusion or a mechanical contrivance - was Jackson moving along a hidden conveyor belt?

The moonwalk is Jackson's signature move, and it was a most fitting act of respect for hordes of Jackson fans in London to perform a mass moonwalk.

I have tried but I have never mastered the moonwalk, when I do it I'm so slow and leaden that it looks like I'm attempting the dance on the moon.

Michael Jackson was the greatest entertainer in the world, and it makes me smile to see the unique ways in which people are honoring the King of Pop.
