- The aim of the DailyMed(TM) program is to help to reduce healthcare costs by reducing chronic medication costs and decrease hospitalizations.

INDIANAPOLIS, June 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WellPoint (NYSE: WLP) announced today that it has signed an agreement with Arcadia Resources, Inc. (NYSE Amex: KAD), a leading provider of home care, medical staffing and pharmacy services under the Arcadia HealthCare(SM) brand, to initiate the DailyMed(TM) medication management program to its high-risk Medicaid members in five states where WellPoint companies provide Medicaid managed care benefits.

The program will be launched in late June inVirginia and will subsequently expand to an additional four states. WellPoint affiliates in its State Sponsored Business Division comprise one of the nation's largest Medicaid managed care enterprises serving nearly 1.8 million members in 11 states who are enrolled in Medicaid, State Children's Health Insurance Programs, and other state sponsored health care programs. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

DailyMed Pharmacy (www.DailyMedRx.com) is Arcadia's proprietary medication adherence program that focuses on controlling healthcare costs for patients taking multiple medications including packaging prescription and over-the-counter medications into pre-sorted packets delivered directly to the home that show the correct time and day for patients to take their medications.

"Helping our members manage their health care is a cornerstone to our programs," said Kevin Hayden, president of WellPoint State Sponsored Business. "Our programs are designed to identify members with specific medical conditions so we can ensure they are accessing the needed medical services to help improve the quality of their health and health outcomes. Implementing the DailyMed medication management program will compliment and enhance our current programs dedicated to managing members with chronic conditions."

Hayden added, "As more states face budget shortfalls and increased Medicaid spending, many states are looking to Medicaid managed health plans to bring solutions, ensure higher quality standards and help manage the cost of care for their Medicaid beneficiaries. It is well-documented that better adherence to treatment guidelines and medication compliance keeps members healthier for a much longer period of time and reduces hospitalizations and other health care related costs."

"Our agreement with WellPoint's State Sponsored Business is a validation of DailyMed and its unique model of helping patients and payers alike correctly, safely and more affordably manage their prescriptions," said Marvin R. Richardson, president and CEO ofArcadia. "We are excited to introduce DailyMed to WellPoint's Medicaid members in select states and believe the result will help improve member care and lower healthcare costs by more effectively managing chronic medication utilization and reducing unnecessary hospitalizations for their Medicaid members."

Richardson added, "From a business standpoint, this agreement is a critical milestone in our plans to continue to develop DailyMed into our fastest-growing business segment and to become a leading provider of pharmaceutical services. Moreover, we believe DailyMed and our team of clinical pharmacists offer a market-driven solution to help address the soaring costs of health care in America. While many are talking about such initiatives, WellPoint andArcadia are delivering value everyday through better patient outcomes."

DailyMed, which utilizes state-of-the-art medication therapy management to provide a unique level of patient care, is designed for convenience for the patient, as well as to maximize the health benefits and eliminate medication errors. Medication errors are one of the most common medical errors, affecting at least 1.5 million people every year and costing the health care system between $77 billion and $177 billion annually, according to the April 27, 2009 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.
