MANSFIELD, Mass., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- PGA TOUR pros Brad Faxon and Brett Quigley might best be known for their smooth golf swings but on Thursday the pair traded their golf spikes for track shoes as they competed in the Stop & Shop/Deutsche Bank Championship Supermarket Sweeps. Faxon and Quigley raced against the clock to fill their shopping cart with the most groceries in two minutes and while the winner was determined by who had the highest grocery bill, the true winner of the day was the Stop & Shop - Giant Family Foundation.
In addition to donating money to the Bayside YMCA inBarrington, R.I., and the George Hall Free Library inWarren, R.I., the charities chosen by Faxon and Quigley, respectively, Stop & Shop and the Deutsche Bank Championship held the Supermarket Sweeps to kick off Stop & Shop's in-store ticket sales campaign for the Deutsche Bank Championship. From June 19 through July 3, 10 percent of all Deutsche Bank Championship tickets sold at Stop & Shop locations will be donated to the Stop & Shop - Giant Family Foundation.
"We're thrilled to once again partner with the Deutsche Bank Championship to raise money that will make a valuable impact on the communities we serve," said Faith Weiner, Senior Director of Public Affairs. "Over the past three years, our partnership with the Deutsche Bank Championship has raised more than $4 million for the Foundation and allowed us to greatly impact the lives of young people and families."
Tickets to the Deutsche Bank Championship are on sale for two weeks only beginning June 19 and are expected to be in high demand as Tiger Woods makes his return toBoston along with the top 100 players on the PGA TOUR. The Championship takes place from September 1 through 7 at the TPC Boston inNorton, Mass. Once again, the Deutsche Bank Championship will be a PGA TOUR Playoff event which means names like Phil Mickelson, Retief Goosen, Rory Sabbatini, Anthony Kim and FedExCup points leader Zach Johnson are all anticipated to be part of the field.
"We're looking forward to another great championship and we're fortunate to have Stop & Shop as a valued partner once again," said Eric Baldwin, championship director for the Deutsche Bank Championship. "The money they've helped raise over the years has been tremendous and this year's in-store ticket sales campaign will only increase that amount and will have a lasting impact on the charities we serve."
